Get yourself a Santa suit and join us on a Portland harbor cruise to spread the holiday cheer. We will meet at Bug Light boat launch in S. Portland, December 18th at 10:30 am. The tide will be running out, so we will have a nice little workout paddling up to and under the Casco Bay Bridge, then a relaxing drift back to Bug Light. You will need a good winter surf suit, a PFD and your own board and paddle...and of course, a Santa outfit.
Just went down to the launch and tried out the Santa outfit with a lifejacket underneath...works great and makes you look like a very jolly fellow! It was 30F and the wind was blowing 15 mph out of the west, and my hands got quite cold. Be sure to bring a warm pair of gloves, either neoprene or ski gloves will work. Santa kid gloves won't cut it.
The weather for Saturday looks cold, but sunny and low wind, which is really the most important factor. So thats all good. If you don't know how to get to Bug Light boat launch... http://www.visitmaine.com/organization/5030/
The Santa SUP was a great success! We had awesome weather, and 4 of us launched (and made the 11 o'clock news and Local section of the Portland Press Herald), and then we were joined by 2 more intrepid Santas at the Casco bay Bridge. Grats to everyone who came out on 10% off their next purchase at Soposup.
